Dr. Jean F.A.Q's

bullet Who is Dr. Jean?

bullet Dr. Jean holds a Ph.D. from Georgia State University and is a nationally known early childhood presenter, author, recording artist, and teacher.

bullet What can I expect from her presentations and workshops?
bullet You do not want to miss the opportunity to see Dr. Jean in person.  She has an energetic and enthusiastic presence on stage that captivates the audience and has them on their feet singing and dancing from the very first minute.  Seeing Dr. Jean live has a rejuvenating affect on teachers everywhere.  When the day is over your head will be spinning from all the ideas you will be itching to implement in your classroom tomorrow!

bullet What can I expect from her music CD's?
bullet Incorporating Dr. Jean's music into my classroom was the best thing I have ever done in my teaching career to date.  Her songs are easy to sing, (for both students and teachers), educational, and most importantly; fun.  I can't pick just one favorite Dr. Jean CD because I use them all, but I can list some of my very favorite songs:

bullet Dr. Jean's Silly Songs: I Like You, Cool Bear Hunt, Three Boppin Bears, Hello Song, Time to Say Good-Bye.
bullet Sing to Learn:  Alphardy, Phonercise, The Color Farm, Tooty Ta, The Numeral Song, The Shape Song.
bullet Kiss Your Brain:  Who Let the Letters Out? I've Got the Whole Alphabet in My Mouth, Kiss Your Brain.
bullet Nursery Rhymes and Good Ol' Times: Wheels on the Bus, She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain, Home on the Range, and ALL the Nursery Rhymes.
bullet Totally Math: Number March, Pattern song, Growing Up
bullet Happy Everything:  ALL- Great for holidays, seasons, and special events!
bullet Dr. Jean's CD, Totally Reading was released summer of '07

bullet What about her books?
bullet My very favorite Dr. Jean books are the Teachin' Tunes series.  These books come with a CD and reproducibles to make little books of her most popular songs that you can copy for your students to make and use in their browsing boxes or take home (my kids love theirs) or you can enlarge and color them so you have song books in your class library.  Some of her other titles include:  Transition Tips  and Tricks for Teachers Transition Time, Wonderful Rooms Where Children Can Bloom, and Ready, Set, Read!  See the links below for more information on Dr. Jean's books.
bullet  "The Best of Dr. Jean" series is now being offered, this series has great ideas from all of her fabulous workshops!
bullet  Dr. Jean has teamed up with Creative Teaching Press, they have recently made many of her popular songs into books!  Now you and your students can sing and read along at the same time!  See links below.

bullet The Playdough Book cover

bullet Laminated, colorful file folders that children can use to duplicate curved and straight lines with playdough, precursor to writing.
bullet

This same book could be made using regular laminated cardstock or even paper.

bullet The Block Book  cover

bullet Laminated file folders to use with small blocks, child duplicates design on page.
bullet This same book could be made using regular laminated cardstock or even paper.

bullet

The Pencil Bag Book

Take 10 pencil pouches and bind them together with pipe cleaners.  Write a number at the top of each bag and place the corresponding number of manipulatives in the bag to create a Number Book.  You could also write simple equations on each bag if you teach K.

bullet The Bag Book

Have your students bring bags from their favorite fast food restaurants.  Use paper grocery bags to create a "Bag Book".

bullet Each page has the words "We eat" written at the top.

bullet What's for Breakfast?          Book Cover

bullet Each page says "_____ (student's name) eats ____ (type of cereal)."
bullet The Cracker Jack Book

Cut white paper to size of Cracker Jack box and ask each student to draw a prize they would like to find in their box.  Bind the book together with ribbon or pipe cleaner.

bullet See Ya Later Alligator             Book

Have students illustrate pictures for this classic chant and bind into book.  (See ya later alligator, after while crocodile, chop chop lollipop, etc)

bullet Wild ABC book
bullet Use different types of fabrics and textures to create a "wild" alphabet book.  Some ideas are fur, felt, glue with glitter, woven plastic etc.

bullet PVC Phone book cover
bullet PVC Phone book inside:

Glue copy of the alphabet inside colorful file folder.  Attach a PVC pipe phone with a phone cord to the book.  (You can buy phone cord at the $ store)  Students can sing or speak into the phone so they can hear themselves reciting the alphabet.  Also could be used with Who Let the Letters Out? sound song.

bullet Oreo book cover

Use internet clip art to decorate your Oreo book with Oreo pictures.

bullet

Who Let the Letters Out?   game front

This was an idea that Dr. Jean talked about, but I didn't get a picture, so this one is my own creation :)

bullet

Who Let the Letters Out? game inside

Place 26 letters (foam or magnetic) on the black dog house.  Begin singing the Who Let the Letters Out song from Dr. Jean's Kiss Your Brain CD and as each letter is called out, have students move the letter to the left side of the file folder so it is "out" of the house.

bullet

Oreo book inside:

Write the letters of two letter words on colorful sticky dots.  Two letter words are referred to as "Oreo words" because they have two parts like an Oreo cookie.  When you say the letters you pretend to lick each palm like half of an Oreo cookie.    Example; "M (lick palm), Y (lick other palm) spells my (clap hands together when you say my)!".
